Our story
Cholsey Volunteers was set up in March 2020 as a result of the Covid Crisis. What was first thought of as a short term solution has grown into a thriving community support group with over 200 registered volunteers supporting many individuals and families in Cholsey.
Through the duration of the pandemic, we managed to support many people with various everyday tasks such as shopping for essential items, delivering prescriptions, providing a daily hot meal direct to their door, dog walking and a befriending service via phone.
A decision was made in late 2020 to continue the service post Covid and be available to help people in the village with the services we had set up along with some more enhanced support, including a food bank which was much needed in the village.
The Cholsey Volunteers have been delighted with the feedback and thanks they have received and have also been recognised for their efforts with numerous awards, including The High Sheriff of Oxfordshire’s award for services to Cholsey during the Covid Pandemic, SOHA’s community Champions and various individuals awards by SOHA for volunteers who have gone above and beyond.
In early 2022 the Cholsey Volunteers were formally registered as a Charity (The Cholsey Volunteer Trust registered number 1197845)
We are also very proud to have such a varied group of volunteers who willingly give as much time as they can spare each month -this may be as little as an hour. We have organised some networking events as a way of thanking everyone for their time and efforts.
